Scheduled and semi-scheduled units on the NEM (Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic, SA, Tas): large solar farms and grid batteries, not rooftop solar. WA and the NT aren't on the NEM.

How the totals are added

Solar totals add positive readings only. A small negative reading is the farm's auxiliary load at night.

Battery figures are net: negative is charging. A gap is an interval with no file.

Near zero at midday
0
Solar, 20 MW and up, under 2% of registered capacity, 12:00 to 13:00 AEST, 18 Oct

Near zero at midday can mean dispatched down (negative prices or a network constraint), an outage or maintenance. This data can't tell which.

Where the readings come from

Generators and batteries on the NEM send AEMO their output in MW over SCADA. At the start of each 5-minute dispatch interval, AEMO writes a snapshot of every unit to one public file. It is listed on NEMWeb a minute or two later, and we check every minute.

This reading reached us 5 min 16 s after it was taken.

36 of the 517 readings in the latest file are from units not on the registration list, 40 from non-scheduled units. They're left out of every total.
